Vision Team
What is the Vision Team?
The Vision Team exists to maintain consistency in Covenant's Vision from articulation to practice. It is a small group of elders and spiritually mature Covenant members who serve the Session by observing the implementation of our Vision, suggesting direction and assisting in measurement of its effectiveness.
Why do we have it?
Inevitably, all church efforts are subject to drift, inertia and loss of focus. This team will seek to provide the tools to maintain clarity of Covenant's vision and direction, as well as to propose adjustments and modifications along the way.
Who is on it?
The Vision Team is made up of five to seven members of Covenant, of which at least two are seated elders along with the Senior Pastor and the Director of Ministries.
Members of the team will serve for at least two years, which is extendable. Session will review and approve all members of the Team. Session will name the Chair of the Team.
Current members of the team include: Andrea Trice, Leanna Giltmier, Joe Ely, Dan Ritchie, Mike Woodard, David Henderson and Andrew Patton.
What are its origins?
Session authorized a serious effort in 2008 to capture clarity for Covenant vision and structure following our move to the EPC. We worked with Will Mancini of Auxano Group, a nationally recognized church vision consultant. The Vision Team was approved by Session in September 2009 as one of three standing committees of Session.
How will the Vision Team do its work?
The team will gather at least quarterly to review, primarily, the strategy by which Covenant seeks to achieve its mission of "Growing Followers of Christ Reaching Past Ourselves." What is the implementation of the Disciple's Path, with its five discipleship destinations? What is working? What is detracting? Who is connecting? Who is not? How can we grow? The team will seek to make objective and near-objective assessments of the effectiveness of Covenant's strategy.
To whom will it report?
This team is accountable to Session and will provide reports to Session during each Church Planning trimester (Jan to Mem Day, Mem Day to Labor Day, Labor Day to EOY).
How will we know if it is doing its job?
Session will know the Vision Team is doing its job if:
· It receives reports quarterly
· The reports provoke useful discussion about Covenant's Vision
· Major decisions on ministries and plans are informed by the Team's work
